Recently Red Bull hosted a massive event here in Gothenburg, Sweden, where participants decorated tandem bikes, dressed up in costumes, and then rode the bike in pairs along a track set up in the river:
It was very high production, with huge screens for the audience, drones flying round capturing the action, a massive judges tower set up - generally just a hoot in the city center.
I popped by with some friends since it was free for anyone to go, we were a bit hungover from the night before and obviously upon seeing all the Red Bull branding everywhere we all were craving a cold can of wing-juice.
I want to preface this by saying I’m a Monster kind-of-pal myself, but hey, when in Rome!
To our surprise, it turned out to be quite the challenge to even find a tent or stall that sold the drink the event was promoting.
It wasn’t until we were outside of the event area where we saw what COULD’VE been a vendor stall, at that point we were already heading out and getting our fix elsewhere (& I got the Monster I wanted hehe).
Inside the event area, there were no signs pointing to where one might get a drink - all signage was event related only.
There’s a lesson to be had here about knowing your audience, and leading them through the experience of getting in contact with your brand.
You don't want to confuse your audience. If you're associated with something specific, it needs to be made very clear how people can purchase that service or product from you.
If they can't figure out what you're offering at a first glance, and how to purchase, they will simply leave. Just like we did at the event.
A confession...
I admit, I'm not the blueprint when it comes to having offers on display, I don't even have my three pinned posts setup on IG (waiting for some juicy brand photos).
But I'm making my way towards it - I finally have a website that I'm obsesed with, that's on brand and has all the information a visitor would need.
Browse around my new site & tell me what you think!
Just don't be like Red Bull at their own event - not making it clear to people where the hell to purchase a Red Bull. That's why people are gonna be there yo!
THIS WEEK'S EXPERIMENT
Have you talked about your offer today?
This one is simple - get on one of the platforms you use and made a post/story/video about your offer!
Some tips to get you on the right track:
- Who is it for?
- What is it?
- Where is it?
- Why would they want it?
- How does one purchase?
Here's mine:
A two-week design extravaganza for soupy-brained entrepreneurs!
Microbrandism takes your brand out of the close, so you can be confident as your real self while booking right fit clients.
In two weeks, you'll co-create a full visual identity system for your business, with the professional designer support you've been missing.
You COULD keep using the same Canva templates you secretly can’t stand that others are using as well...
Never quite figuring out how to make your posts look like they have a unique theme, regurgitating the same 3 colours that scream “I HAVE NO CLUE WHAT I’M DOING”.
Let’s be honest, you can’t see the label from the inside!
Translating your abstract and frankly hot mess of a vision into VISUALS that are consistent, on-brand and leave you BUZZING about marketing your shit takes professional design expertise and support.
It's the perfect DWY design & strategy intensive for online service providers in need of a solid starting kit that will last you years to come.
